Akima, nickname Kimie, was taken in by SHRF due to her owner being unable to afford the cost of her care and wanting to do what was best for her. SHRF was able to take her in so that her previous owner didn't have to take her to a shelter.
She is a little underweight, which won't take long for her to overcome with a proper diet and supplements, especially since Akima loves to eat and has a healthy appetite. She has a couple of spots on her skin that the Veterinarians call moist dermatitis which is often caused by allergies to flea bites or even food (often wheat). This is usually treatable with medicated shampoo and/or readily available triple antibiotic and hydrocortisone creams.
She has some work to do on learning to take treats gently from your hand, but that is mainly due to her level of excitement when she knows it's treat time. You can see how happy she is and her tail wags frantically when she knows she is getting a treat.
Akima is very loving and affectionate. Being that she has entered her senior years, Akima has a laid back and calm personality. She likes to spend her day lazing about the house, mostly on her bed. However, she doesn't mind going for long walks or runs and enjoys taking in the scenery. Akima gets along with other dogs and loves meeting new people.
She doesn't walk very well on lead, but her foster mom is working with her on this. She hasn't shown much interest in toys or playing interactively with her humans. She prefers to get attention from humans by being petted and absolutely loves her tummy rubs. If you stop before she is ready she will look at you and whine until you start again.
Akima knows some basic commands such as sit, shake, and speak. She is very eager to please and being food motivated you can get her to do just about anything. On the off chance she does something she shouldn't, Akima listens when corrected. She is housebroken and is non-destructive when left alone so no crating is necessary.
Akima is healthy, Heartworm negative, spayed, current on vaccines, and microchipped. This is one sweet Husky girl who would fit into just about any home. Let that home be yours, fill out an adoption application at the upper left corner of this page, today.
