Dog Name: Stella
Number: 694
Age: 1½ Years (DoB 3/1/2017 est.) Sex: Female
Coat: Black and White Wooly
Eyes: Blue
Intake: 7/26/2018

Beautiful Stella is getting her groove back. She was picked up as a stray by a county shelter, so we have no idea what she has been through. It was not good; it was clearly evident that she was neglected and given reasons to fear humans.

She was covered in ticks (now tick free), her coat was extremely matted (now no longer matted), and she had an ear infection that has been successfully treated. Stella is afraid of many unfamiliar things and reacts with barking and has also shown fear aggression. In her foster home she is developing trust in humans thanks to her foster parents.

Once you gain her trust and she feels comfortable Stella enjoys getting attention. She seems to favor her foster Dad and loves being near him to get lots of petting.

Stella is getting necessary training in socialization with humans and some dogs. She is fine with some dogs but not others, which could be due to lack of socialization exposure, the energy level of the other dogs which could be too much for her, she doesn't understand their body language or just personality conflicts. She gets along well with her foster brother and sister Huskies and instigates play with them. Since her initial intake, Stella has settled down and become much more relaxed.

She does walk well on lead and enjoys her time outside. While not completely housebroken she is almost 100% there. Stella doesn't appear to be destructive when left alone so probably will not need a crate. If you are sitting down without shoes on, she may decide to stop by and lick your feet.

Stella is Heartworm positive so will be treated using the "slow kill" method. Her adopter will be provided with instructions on this method as well as the necessary Heartworm medication. She is otherwise healthy, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and microchipped. Stella is affectionate and sweet once she gets to know you and needs a forever home where she will be spoiled by an experienced adopter who has the patience to continue working with her.
