Aries came to SHRF through his previous owner, a Good Samaritan who rescued him from a deplorable environment where he had been neglected to the point of contracting Heartworm disease. The Good Samaritan was unable to keep him because he did not get along with the family cat, so they turned him over to us.
He is very sweet and gets along well with other dogs. We know very little about what Aries has been through but his foster parents are quickly learning about whom he is now and the potential he has to be a great Husky.
Aries has had some accidents in the house but after living outside most of his life he needs some time to correct this behavior. He is quickly catching on to the household routine. He does not like to be crated and will carry on quite a fuss crying and howling. Hopefully he will prove himself to be trusted left uncrated when left alone very soon. At night he is left uncrated and confined to the bedroom to sleep in the same room with his foster parents without any issues.
Partly due to the Heartworm and the strong medication used to cure him, Aries is currently underweight so has a few pounds to put on to get to his ideal weight. He is a little guarded when it comes to his food bowl but that is likely due to years of not being fed regularly, leaving him a little malnourished. As Aries gets used to being fed regular meals this behavior should improve over time. Given his food drive, you need to watch your fingers when giving him treats. He is slowly improving on being gentler.
Aries has a lot of personality. He is very smart and learns new things quickly. He knows the sit command and is working on lay down, leave it, shake, high five, and spinning. Aries would love to play with other dogs and is eager to do so with his foster sibling but can’t right now due to being on activity restriction for his Heartworm treatment. In the meantime, he has a lot of love to give and eats up any attention he receives.
Aries is Heartworm positive but going through treatment. He will be neutered once his treatment is completed. He is otherwise healthy, up-to-date on vaccines and microchipped. Help this boy make up for years of neglect and he will bring a lot of joy into your life. Fill out an adoption application at the upper left corner of this page, today.
