Dog Name: Jaeger
Number: 651
Age: 5 Years (DoB 3/2012 est.) Sex: Male
Coat: Isabella White
Eyes: Blue
Intake: 3/3/2017

Jaeger came to SHRF due to his owner being unable to afford the cost of his care. His previous owner loved him dearly and just wanted to do what was best for him. Jaeger was quite attached to his previous owner but for some reason is fearful of those he does not know. He will need a special adopter with Husky experience who has the time and patience to work with him to develop a trusting relationship.

Once he trusts you, he is eager to please and can't get enough attention. He has made great progress with his fear of people in the short time he has been with SHRF, which could be related to the change in his environment. He is more receptive to meeting new people but we are not overwhelming him but letting him greet people on his own terms.

He loves to run around and play with other dogs and even has a cute little Husky hop when he runs. He does not like to share his food with other dogs and will guard his food from them, but is not food aggressive with people, taking treats gently from your hand. On the other hand, he is picky and if he decides he does not want to eat something he will just set it down on the ground near him.

We were informed that in his previous home he was territorial, which is unusual for a Husky. However, due to the change in environment that behavior has not been observed. Jaeger has funny growly or grumbly type sounds that he makes so his foster parents are learning what these different sounds mean to him as they are not necessarily aggressive and just part of his personality. It could even be his way of communicating.

Jaeger enjoys being near his humans most of the time and will follow them around the house. He has a tendency to want to be a lap dog and will try to weasel his way up onto his foster Mom's lap and will also paw at your hands when he wants attention.

Jaeger does not respond well to correction when done in a raised, stern, or distressed voice as it appears to upset him. We believe this could be related to his past and should ease over time since this behavior appears to be his way of protecting himself by getting defensive. He does respond well when corrected in a calm manner. He responds best to praise and is not food motivated.

Jaeger is not a fan of loud noises or unfamiliar sounds such as toast popping up from a toaster and is easily startled by them, which is not surprising considering his reaction to raised voices. As long as no attention is drawn to those noises he will learn that there is no cause to be concerned.

Jaeger walks really well on lead without pulling much as he mostly enjoys the distractions of all the smells in the world and explores everything. He travels well in the car with little anxiety, either lying down or sitting watching the scenery and cars passing by. On occasion he will engage in conversation. He is good with other dogs and is cat friendly; however we always advise caution when meeting a new cat.

Jaeger is healthy, Heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccines. He just needs the love of humans around him and he will be a faithful companion. Fill out an adoption application at the upper left corner of this page, today.
